Burgentour - Burg Pyrmont zur Burg Eltz
Roes
Start your eventful hike either at Pyrmont Castle (Roes) or on the Moselle.
On the edge of the "Forster Kirchspiel", the rebuilt Pyrmont Castle towers above the three-part waterfall of the Elz. Pyrmont Castle has been open to visitors since May 1, 1990 (please note the opening times here). The oldest preserved part is the 25 m high Romanesque keep, from which you have a magnificent view over the Maifeld as far as Eltz Castle. The path now leads to the Pyrmont Mill, where you have a fantastic view of the waterfall and Pyrmont Castle.
Now the path meanders along the Elzbach stream and you can enjoy nature to the full. You walk past numerous old mills, such as the Schweizermühle, Löffelsmühle and Sauersmühle. The trail mostly follows the main hiking trail of the Eifelverein, which is marked with a three-colored "E" (blue, brown, green) on a white background and with the name "Osteifelweg".
After about 9.5 km you reach your destination: the Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle, Elz Castle. Thanks to its hidden location, it was spared any destruction by war and offers visitors a picturesque sight. Built on a slate cliff, surrounded by the Elzbach stream and framed by steep wooded slopes. Many of the interior rooms retain their original furnishings and contain numerous treasures. Furniture, paintings, household goods and armor. Valuable gold and silversmith work, jewelry, porcelain, clothing and weapons can be admired in the treasury.
