GESPERRT: Pommerbachtal
Kaisersesch
- Due to flood damage, the hiking trail through the Pommerbach valley is currently closed. -
Explore the beautiful Pommerbach valley on ancient, slightly overgrown paths - you will discover a few mills in the seclusion of the forest. The wheel has come to a standstill and has fallen into disrepair: all that remains of some of the mills are the surrounding walls. The stream has its source in the middle of Kaisersesch and its hiking trail is marked with a large P.
The diversity of the hiking trail is an absolute must for nature lovers - you walk on a wide path and then suddenly on a narrow path, crossing numerous footbridges in between.
After about a third of the way, the "Villa Margaretha" appears, which a Krefeld merchant who had made his fortune in St. Petersburg had built in a romantic style around the turn of the century.
Then you are alone with the stream and yourself. About halfway along, the valley widens and more extensive masonry becomes wildly overgrown (10 km so far): the former Rosental monastery. Here in this solitude, according to the will of Bernhard of Clairvaux, Cistercian nuns founded a convent in the "valle rosarum" around 1170, which was connected to Himmerod, which had rich possessions around Pomerania. According to legend, the holy knight George, who was being pursued by enemies, jumped from the nearby rock and was saved. In gratitude, he built a chapel from which the monastery grew. Today, the little saint's house is a reminder of the place where the high altar of Rosenthal once stood.
Soon you will be in wine-loving Pomerania - somewhere in a vineyard around the "Spilles" (playhouse), the old Pomeranian town hall. After this eventful hike, you are welcome to sit down for a glass of "Zeisel" or "Goldberg": there are few places where Riesling tastes as fresh and racy as here.
