Traumpfad Monrealer Ritterschlag
Monreal
The 16-kilometre circular hike "Traumpfad Monrealer Ritterschlag" was voted Germany's most beautiful hiking trail in 2011 - and has of course lost none of its charm since then. Some fitness and sure-footedness are required to enjoy spectacular views high above the medieval half-timbered town of Monreal and the Elz Valley.
The route starts in the picturesque town center, which is even more fascinating with its massive natural stone bridges and a parish church well worth seeing. The route climbs steeply up to Löwenburg Castle, whose keep, which is still almost thirty meters high, can be climbed. The view of the small town of Monreal on the banks of the Elz, nestled in dense forests, and the neighboring Phillipsburg, whose ruins are just a stone's throw away, is magnificent. It can be reached via a narrow rocky path if you are feeling adventurous.
The Monrealer Ritterschlag dream trail leads past steeply sloping slate walls and through sparse deciduous forest steeply downhill to the Augstmühle mill, before winding its way up again in serpentines. From an extensive plateau with wide meadow paths, the panoramic view of the volcanic peaks of the Eastern Eifel is breathtakingly beautiful.
The constant ups and downs of the hike on sometimes narrow paths provide an adrenaline rush, while the crowning finale at Café Plüsch in the half-timbered idyll of Monreal is a delicious, relaxing reward for your efforts.
